Managing risks and opportunities at UNHCR

This self-paced, 7-modules online course is an introduction to risk management at UNHCR.

 Managing our risks and opportunities proactively is crucial to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our operations, as well as upholding the trust placed in us by those we protect. As everyone in UNHCR is responsible and accountable for managing risks, the course was designed and developed for all personnel at any level, function and location, as well as for external partners.

 In this course you will learn how to assess, treat, monitor, report and communicate risks and opportunities. A detailed fictional scenario spanning the entire risk management process will guide you through your learning journey with short and engaging modules.

 The course was developed by the Enterprise Risk Management Service (ERM) within the framework of the ERM 2025 strategy. This course is also available in French and Spanish.



Monitoring Foundations

We are pleased to inform you that WFP is providing to all its partner staff a free e-learning course on Monitoring Foundations.

Anyone who is interested in learning more about monitoring is welcome to complete the Monitoring Foundations course. The course will support staff’s understanding of how monitoring for WFP’s programmes is done. This knowledge will help partner staff in supporting WFP’s activities, and partners can also apply it when monitoring their own programmes.

The course is available in English, French, Arabic and Spanish. The duration is 10 hours, but the platform will save staff’s completion so they can complete it in smaller parts.

Investigating Allegations of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse

UNHCR has developed this e-learning course to help partners enhance their skills in investigating allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse against beneficiaries of humanitarian assistance. The e-learning course is one of the deliverables of the UN High Commissioner for Refugee´s IASC Championship on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment (September 2019 – December 2020), and closely aligns with his commitment to support partners and working jointly to enhance capacity and accountability. UNHCR initiated this project as a response to specific requests from its partners to support the strengthening of their capacity to conduct high quality investigations of allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse. It is based on commonly used principles and standards for administrative investigations within the UN system, as well as UNHCR´s training programme on investigation for partners. Some aspects of the process may have to be modified to reflect a specific organization´s internal policies and procedures, as well as local laws and regulations.
This course is  available in English, Arabic, French, and Spanish.


Fraud Awareness Basic

The Fraud Awareness Basic course is aimed at representatives and staff members of UN agencies, civil society organizations, government agencies and any other organizations involved in delivering humanitarian and development aid. The objective of the course is to provide attendees with the skills to understand the most common types of fraud, spot signs and red flags, and make the right decisions throughout their day-to-day work. 

The course is available in English, Arabic, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Bengali, Hindi and Balkans.

IASC Learning Package on Protection from Sexual Misconduct for UN partner organizations

‘Saying No to Sexual Misconduct’ is an interactive and innovative learning package that aims to raise awareness among IASC partner staff and ensure they have the skills and tools to define, detect and respond to sexual misconduct.


Protection contre l’exploitation et les abus sexuels (PEAS) dans le secteur de l’aide

PEAS et les partenariats dans le secteur de l'aide est un cours interactif conçu pour les ONGs et les OSCs. Il se concentre sur l'outil d'évaluation harmonisée des capacités PEAS et guide les participants sur la manière de mener à bien leurs évaluations de la PEAS et le processus de renforcement des capacités. 

Cette formation en ligne a été lancée sous la direction de Cindy McCain, directrice exécutive du PAM en qualité de Championne du CPI pour la Protection contre l'exploitation, les abus et le harcèlement sexuels. Développée en collaboration avec le groupe de travail interagences sur le Protocole IP des Nations Unies (IPPWG), elle offre aux ONGs et aux OSCs du monde entier un accès gratuit à un cours d'apprentissage en ligne sur ce sujet.

Elle fournit des conseils pratiques  à travers de scénarios et d'exercices attrayants, afin d'aider les organisations et les partenaires à progresser dans leur démarche de renforcement des capacités en matière de PEAS dans le cadre de partenariats entre les agences de l'ONU et les ONGs/OSCs. Les participants acquerront également une expérience pratique de la navigation dans le module PEAS du portail des partenaires des Nations Unies (PPNU). 

Le cours est organisé en quatre modules. Les modules 1 et 2 présentent l'outil d'évaluation harmonisé des capacités PEAS et décrivent le parcours plus large de développement des capacités. Le module 3 offre des conseils détaillés sur chaque élément de l'évaluation, et le module 4 vous montre comment naviguer dans le PPNU. Il n'est pas nécessaire de tout faire en une seule fois - vous pouvez suivre les modules en allant à votre propre rythme, au fur et à mesure que vous progressez dans votre parcours de capacité PEAS.

Protección frente a la explotación y el abuso sexuales (PEAS) en el sector de la ayuda humanitaria

PEAS y asociaciones en el sector de la ayuda/humanitario es un curso interactivo diseñado para ONG y OSC. Se centra en la Herramienta Armonizada para la Evaluación de Capacidades en materia de PEAS y orienta a los participantes sobre cómo completar sus evaluaciones de PEAS y sus procesos de fortalecimiento de la capacidad. 

Este aprendizaje virtual (e-learning) fue lanzado bajo el liderazgo de la Directora Ejecutiva del PMA, Cindy McCain, en su función como Promotora de la protección frente a la explotación y el abuso sexuales y frente al acoso sexual del IASC. Desarrollado en colaboración con el Grupo de trabajo sobre el Protocolos de los socios implementadores (IPPWG), ofrece a ONG y OSC de todo el mundo acceso gratuito a un curso de aprendizaje en línea sobre este tema.

Proporciona orientación práctica a través de escenarios y ejercicios participativos, apoyando a las organizaciones y socios en el avance de su viaje de capacidad en materia PEAS dentro de las asociaciones entre los organismos de las Naciones Unidas y las ONG/OSC. Los participantes también adquirirán experiencia práctica al navegar por el módulo PEAS del Portal de socios de la ONU (UNPP). 

El curso está organizado en cuatro módulos. Los módulos 1 y 2 presentan la Herramienta armonizada para la evaluación de capacidades en materia de PEAS y esbozan el recorrido más amplio del desarrollo de capacidades. El Módulo 3 ofrece orientación detallada sobre cada elemento de la evaluación, y el Módulo 4 le muestra cómo navegar por la UNPP. No es necesario que lo complete todo de una sola vez: puede trabajar en los módulos a su propio ritmo a medida que avanza en su itinerario de capacitación PEAS.

Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Partnerships in the Aid Sector

PSEA and Partnerships in the Aid Sector is an interactive course designed for NGOs and CSOs. It focuses on the Harmonized PSEA Capacity Assessment Tool and guides participants on how to complete their PSEA assessments and capacity strengthening processes.

This e-learning was launched under the leadership of WFP Executive Director Cindy McCain, in her role as IASC Champion on Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse and Sexual Harassment. Developed in collaboration with the Implementing Partner Protocol Working Group (IPPWG), it offers NGOs and CSOs worldwide free access to an e-learning course on this topic.

It provides practical guidance through engaging scenarios and exercises, supporting organizations and partners in advancing their PSEA capacity journey within partnerships between UN agencies and NGOs/CSOs. Participants will also gain hands-on experience navigating the PSEA Module in the UN Partner Portal (UNPP).

The course is organized into four modules. Modules 1 and 2 introduce the Harmonized PSEA Capacity Assessment Tool and outline the wider capacity-development journey. Module 3 offers detailed guidance on each element of the assessment, and Module 4 shows you how to navigate the UNPP. There’s no need to complete everything in one go – you can work through the modules at your own pace as you progress along your PSEA capacity journey.

الحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء الجنسيين (PSEA) والشراكات في قطاع المعونة

الحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء الجنسيين (PSEA) والشراكات في قطاع المعونة هي دورة تفاعلية مُصمَّمة للمنظمات غير الحكومية ومنظمات المجتمع المدني. تركّز الدورة على أداة التقييم المنسَّقة لقدرات الحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء الجنسيين، وتوجّه المشاركين إلى كيفية استكمال تقييمات الحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء الجنسيين وتعزيز عمليات بناء القدرات.

أُطلقت هذه الدورة الإلكترونية تحت قيادة المديرة التنفيذية لبرنامج الأغذية العالمي (WFP) سيندي مكين، بصفتها الجهة الراعية
ضمن اللجنة الدائمة المشتركة بين الوكالات (IASC) المعنية بالحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء الجنسيين والتحرّش الجنسي. طُوِّرت الدورة بالتعاون مع فريق العمل المعني ببروتوكول الشركاء المنفّذين (IPPWG)، وتوفّر وصولًا مجانيًا عبر الإنترنت إلى محتوى تدريبي للمنظمات غير الحكومية (NGOs) منظمات المجتمع المدني (CSO) حول العالم.

تقدّم الدورة إرشادات عملية من خلال سيناريوهات وتمارين تفاعلية، بما يدعم المنظمات والشركاء في تطوير رحلة بناء قدرات الحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء الجنسيين ضمن الشراكات بين وكالات الأمم المتحدة والمنظمات غير الحكومية ومنظمات المجتمع المدني. يكتسب المشاركون خبرة تطبيقية في استخدام وحدة الحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء الجنسيين ضمن بوابة شركاء الأمم المتحدة (UNPP).

تنقسم الدورة التدريبية إلى أربع وحدات. تعرّف الوحدتان الأولى والثانية بأداة التقييم المنسَّقة لقدرات الحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء الجنسيين وتعرضان الإطار الأوسع لرحلة تطوير القدرات في هذا المجال. تقدّم الوحدة الثالثة إرشادات مفصّلة حول كل عنصر من عناصر التقييم، وتوضّح الوحدة الرابعة كيفية التنقّل داخل بوابة شركاء الأمم المتحدة. لا حاجة لإكمال كل المحتوى دفعة واحدة؛ إذ يمكن متابعة الوحدات بالوتيرة المناسبة أثناء التقدّم في رحلة بناء قدرات الحماية من الاستغلال والاعتداء لجنسيين .
